Mark Mack

Architect
Mark Mack (Judenburg, Austria, 1949) is an architect and theorist. After studying at the Technical High School in Graz and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he worked with Steiger & Partners in Zurich, Hans Hollein in Vienna, and Haus Rucker CO and Emilio Ambasz in New York. Between 1976 and 1978, he started his own practice in San Francisco, founding Western Addition, and later the firm Batey & Mack. He co-founded Archetype magazine and was Professor of Architecture at UC Berkeley (1982–1993) and UCLA (1993–2019), as well as visiting faculty at institutions such as Harvard, Rice, University of Chicago, SCI-Arc, SNUT, and INHA. His writings have appeared in Harvard Architectural Review, Progressive Architecture, Domus, Wiener, and Umriss. He has lectured worldwide and has been published in numerous international journals.
